Solstice '08 at the Berkeley Rose Garden tunnel

We had the first ever solstice celebration in the Berkeley Rose Garden on December 21, 2008. There were approxiamtely 22 people in attendance for this exploration of sound and healing.

We began with the playing of a bull roarer as the "First" sound. Our intent was to simulate the birth of a new world through sound. We followed the bull roarer with silence out of which the didgeridoo began a primal sound of our first home.

Layers of sound were then added through voice, drum, clarinet, flute, more didgeridoos, and shakers. After cell division, and amalgamation more and more sounds were produced until finally we were ready for a birth.

Viviane DeLeon Bias blessed us with a new song she had written followed by the singing of Betsy Rose's song called "There's a New World Coming" as we birthed ourselves out of the tunnel.

A small group has formed out of this larger group to return to the tunnel and concentrate on a tunnel and sound exploration. This core group will present more celebrations at the tunnel. Stay tuned for notice of those future events

Art Between Us held a Spiral Gathering in January of '09 in Jenner, California. (See ArtBetweenUs.org) All 8 participants decorated didgeridoos with collage. An eight didge salute was given to Obama as he was sworn in as the 44th President of the USA.
